10 Uses of Chamomile

1. Travel Sickness.

Motion sickness inhaler

Ingredients:

  • 7 drops Sweet Orange Essential Oil
  • 7 drops Roman Chamomile Essential Oil
  • 2 drops Peppermint Essential Oil

Instructions

  1. Place oils in a small bowl and add cotton part of the inhaler.
  2. Using tweezers, rotate until the cotton is saturated.
  3. Pick up one end with the tweezers and place in the plastic inhaler container.
  4. Cover with the “butt”.

2. Irritable Bowel.

Chamomile tea may help control the gas and abdominal pain of IBS by easing the bowel spasms related to IBS. As an anti-inflammatory it reduces inflamed swollen tissue.

How to make chamomile tea:

  1. Pour boiling water over 2 to 3 tablespoons of dried chamomile and let the tea to infuse for 10-15 minutes.
  2. Drinking 3 to 4 cups of chamomile tea each day between meals may provide some relief from IBS symptoms.

3. Tense, tight muscles.

Chamomile essential oil is a natural painkiller. It’s is commonly used to provide relief from spasms. Chamomile tea can also help relax sore muscles.

Instructions:

Add a couple drops of chamomile essential oil to a carrier oil and massage away the pain.

Another way to use it – have a cup of chamomile tea to experience the cleansing, healing properties of chamomile.

This will help flush out toxins and ease achy muscles.

4. Sleep and relaxation.

Chamomile has a nice taste and different studies prove that it has an impressive calming effect, and this makes it an excellent option for your cup of tea before bedtime. This is one of the most popular uses of chamomile.

Instructions:

  1. For dry chamomile: add 3-4 tablespoons in 8 ounces of boiling water. Steep for 5 minutes.
  2. For fresh chamomile: add chamomile flowers into a pot of hot water to infuse for 3 minutes. Strain before drinking.

5. Sore and tired eyes (eyestrain), conjunctivitis and stye/stys.

Soothing Gel for Tired Eyes

Ingredients:

  • 1 chamomile tea bag
  • 1/2 cup aloe of vera gel
  • 50 ml distilled extract of witch hazel
  • 1 small cucumber
  • 1 sachet vegetable gelatine

Instructions:

  1. Place the cucumber and aloe vera gel into a blender and process until smooth.
  2. Extract the juice by filtering the mix. Set aside 100 ml of the juice
  3. Add to the pan the witch hazel, the gelatin and the tea bag
  4. Heat until the mixture starts to thicken
  5. Remove the tea bag after the mixture is cooled down, then add the remaining cucumber and aloe vera juice and whisk well.
  6. Store in a sterilized airtight container.

How to apply?
Apply the gel before bed, and wash off in the morning.

Storage
Keeps the gel in the refrigerator for up to 6 weeks.

6. Bites and stings.

Stings and Bites Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 drops of thyme
  • 10 drops of lavender
  • 4 drops of eucalyptus globulus
  • 3 drops of german chamomile

Instructions:

  1. Combine in an empty bottle and apply directly to bite or sting.
  2. Repeat when sting or itch returns.

7. Anti-nausea (anti-emetic).

When nausea and vomiting which might be happening because of digestion problem, use this recipe.

Instructions:

  1. Take one teaspoon of dry flower of chamomile.
  2. Add it in boiling water and drink it after straining.
  3. Take two or three cups daily.

8. Fevers.

Chamomile tea is very useful to treat fever as well as its symptoms like a sore throat, body ache, running nose and cough. It is also a remedy for dehydration.

Ingredients:

  • 1 bag of chamomile tea
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 tablespoon of honey

Instructions:

  1. Take 1 cup of water in a pan and boil it for 2 minutes.
  2. Soak the chamomile tea bag in the hot water for 1 minute.
  3. Add 1 tablespoon of honey to it and stir well.
  4. Provide the hot drink to your child twice a day to bring down fever in your child.

9. For babies and children.

For babies

Chamomile tea is used for with babies is soothing colic, gas and tummy aches.

Note: Although the benefit of Chamomile tea for babies is good but you should not overfeed. The dosage of chamomile tea right is crucial and you should only feed your baby around 1-2 ounces of diluted chamomile tea within any 24-hour timespan.

For Children

Use for nappy rash, bumps and bruises, fevers, stomach upsets.

Instructions:

  1. Use teas with honey added for taste.
  2. The essential oil can be mixed with a base oil (4mls to 200mls base oil) for external application.
  3. A cool compress e.g cold chamomile tea on forehead for fevers.

10. Cold and Flu.

Use this recipe for a fast recovery from common cold.

Steam Inhalation with Chamomile

What You’ll Need:

  • A big bowl
  • Towel
  • 2-3 tablespoons of chamomile flowers or essential oil

Instructions:

  1. Boil water and add to the bowl.
  2. Add 2-3 tablespoons of chamomile.
  3. Let it steep for a few minutes.
  4. Place a towel over your head.
  5. Put your face over the bowl (Not too close! Don’t burn yourself!) and cover with towel. Make sure you enclose the whole of the bowl, so no steam can escape.
  6. Inhale slowly.
